STEVEN SPIELBERG ANNOUNCES INDIANA JONES ON BLU-RAY, TAKES SHOT AT GEORGE LUCAS

Last night, Steven Spielberg attended a screening of a new digital restoration of his 1981 masterpiece, Raiders of the Lost Ark in Los Angeles. While there, he announced that the new digital print of Raiders is ready to be transferred to Blu-ray along with the other two films, but they won’t be released until — surprise, surprise — George Lucas takes some time out of his busy schedule raping the corpse of  Star Wars to give his final approval. Spielberg also took a shot at his longtime friend by informing the crowd that the digitally restored version of Raiders they were about to see contained no new CGI tweaks or any added dialogue, which drew huge laughs.

Industry sources say the Indiana Jones Blu-ray set should hit no later than June, 2012, which will be just in time for Paramount’s 100th anniversary celebration. Spielberg also confirmed that the original theatrical version of E.T. is coming to Blu-ray around that time as well.
