When Marion Cotillard signed on to The Dark Knight Rises, everyone immediately assumed she would be playing a substantial character – possibly a main villian – because you don’t spend the money on an actress of Marion Cotillard’s caliber to play a nondescript board member of Wayne Enterprises. Cotillard has been seen in spoilery set photos wearing Tibetian-style garb, looking badass and leading an army of thugs. This would lead anyone who ever read a Batman comic book or saw an episode of Batman: TAS in their life to immediately assume Cotillard is secretly playing Talia Al Ghul, daughter of Liam Neeson’s R’as Al Ghul from Batman Begins. However, as Cotillard repeatedly tells this nerdy MTV reporter at the premiere of Contagion, she is not playing a character from the Batman comics. Really. Honestly. Wink.
