January Jones is an amazingly hot piece of ass, but as an actress she makes Megan Fox look like Meryl Streep. Her role on Mad Men as Don Draper’s wife Betty simply requires her to be a pouty, pampered bitch, and she can barely do that convincingly. Now, Matthew Vaughn has enlisted her “talents” to play Emma Frost in his upcoming X-Men film, First Class. The movie is set in the 1960’s, during the Cuban Missle Crisis, and explores the genesis of the bitter feud between a young Charles Xavier and Magneto. It also features the nefarious Hellfire Club, with Kevin Bacon playing its leader, Sebastian Shaw.
Apparently Vaughn is following Darren Aronofsky’s lead and completely ignoring any continuity set forth in the execrable X-Men Origins: Wolverine. By placing Emma Frost in the 1960’s as a full-grown woman, it negates the teenage version seen in that cinematic shit-bomb. The LA Times recently interviewed Jones, and she had these captivating things to say about playing the scantily clad White Queen:
“The costumes are insane, it’s a lot of very body-conscious stuff. If you look at the comic book, she’s barely dressed. She’s got quite the bod, which is very intimidating. I don’t have to do all the crazy prosthetics. When I morph into my diamond form, it’s all done on computer. Fans of the X-Men comics have a very set idea of these characters in their heads. I wanted to know as much as I could about her so I wasn’t disappointing anyone. I’m sure I will still disappoint someone.”
If her acting is anywhere near Betty Draper-level, she’ll be right about that last part. X-Men: First Class opens on June 3, 2011. Credit: Comic Book Movie.
