Is it just me, or does this new TV spot for Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer actually make this movie look good? The Surfer looks awesome, there’s a mention (although not by name) of Galactus, there seems to be a more dramatic, “epic” feel to the film, and there’s no sign of that awful, Euro-trash, metro-sexual Doctor Doom (apparently he does show up, however).
The first Fantastic Four movie was ass on toast, mostly due to a low budget, poor casting decisions, and a director working for the first time in the genre. To this day, I still think it was a gigantic mistake to make a Thing suit for Michael Chiklis. The Thing should have been an entirely CGI-animated character, so that he looked like the comic book version and had the same proportions. A slightly re-designed Thing costume is featured in FF2, but it still just isn’t right. Despite these flaws, these new promos for the sequel look promising. If this flick delivers, it will be be a great addition to an already stacked summer blockbuster lineup that includes Transformers, Spidey 3, Pirates 3, and Shrek 3.
