MOVIE REVIEW – ‘HARRY POTTER & THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN’

Yeah, I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted, but this one is soooooo going to be worth the wait.

First off, I know I promised you guys a whole huge Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban review, but everyone and their Aunt Tilly as written about this flick on the ‘net, so here’s the condensed version: Puberty has smacked these kid actors around (especially that Malfoy kid), and the series’ new director has added a darker, spookier, tone to the series, as well as some dreary, wind-swept exteriors to the Hogwarts campus. It’s the shortest of the three Potter films so far, which is quite odd considering that Azkaban is almost double the page count of the previous two books. Gary Oldman kicks all kinds of ass as Sirius Black, but I didn’t care for Michael Gambon’s hippie-like portrayal of Dumbledore. The special effects in this one make all the effects from the previous movies look like an episode of  Kevin Sorbo’s Hercules. Buckbeak the Hippogriff is especially awesome. All in all, a good solid flick, but pretty damned terrifying if you’re 10 or younger. B+ ( for longer, better Azkaban reviews, click here or here).
